Anyone who has visited a Platinum Pre School will know, our centres are not purely places that provide our children with the academic tools that they will need to take on their next big step into primary school. We also focus value and importance of human connection as paramount in the learning process. No matter how academically competent a child may be, no significant learning can occur without significant relationships between students and educators and having a sense of belonging and community.
We take great pride in the fact that our teachers and staff go above and beyond the call of duty, taking the time to build relationships with the children that they teach and the parents that they work with in helping our students receive the very best early education and care.
The Early Years Learning Framework states "Children develop a sense of belonging when they feel accepted, develop attachments and trust those who care for them. When children feel safe, secure and supported they grow in confidence to explore and learn".
Children who are supported to understand themselves in this positive way experience a sense of belonging that nurtures the development of self-esteem. Self-esteem is critical to children’s capacity to develop positive images about their abilities, interests and personal future.
One of the most important aspects of building positive and supportive relationships is simple kindness...
The reason we have such a strong focus on kindness is because, although it is a fairly simple concept to comprehend, it is one of the hardest to put into practise. Kindness is something that starts off easy, a friendly hello in the morning or a pat on the back for a job well done. However, this is only where it starts, fostering kindness from a young age is something that will grow to have an impact on every part of a child's life. And helping children to develop a deep and innate sense of being kind and compassionate is possibly the greatest gift a teacher can give. Research shows that compassion plays a key role in helping children develop into engaged, caring and optimistic adults.
So, when you're next in at Platinum you'll know why the backs of our uniforms say "Be Kind" and why we've recently introduced award ribbons for simple acts of kindness. It's not because we want our students to live in an unrealistic world of rainbows and puppy dogs tails (although this would be nice), it's because we want to help them to build the foundation for a life that they can be truly proud of, with the ability to be kind and compassionate when it really matters... Even when it is hard.
